Hey Friends,
Well, it happened. I gave birth… er… released a book. And what a vulnerable feeling it is! I put so much of myself into each novel. Honestly, I’ve no idea how anyone survives having children. I’m sure it’s way more intense, imagining people are judging me by my child’s behavior. It’s the same with a novel, because people know it came from my brain, from my heart, which this one certainly did.
The initial idea came to me outside the yoga studio while I was waiting to get in. There was a man, a pirate, just waking up after a night sleeping in the alcove. I call him a pirate because he was dressed like a pirate, and all his belongings, stacked onto a bike trailer, were covered in skull and cross bones. Noting me, he politely asked if I would watch his stuff while he went down the street to use the bathroom. What could I say? That he would trust me, a stranger, with all his earthly belongings, touched me and gave me an inside look into the vulnerability of living on the street.
As I stood there watching over his stuff, other students began to file in from the back door of the yoga studio, I thought, what if I miss the beginning of class? What if he makes me lose my favorite spot in the studio? But what he had to lose by trusting me was so much more than I had to lose by waiting. So I waited, and he came back, and I got my spot.
Vulnerability. That’s what has got me writing to you today. Because asking you to do what I’m about to ask you to do makes me feel extremely vulnerable. And that is, if you’ve read LOST IN SOUND, would you consider writing a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads? Or posting a photo of yourself with the book on social media? Or recommending it to a friend? I’ve been so fortunate that Bedazzled Ink has chosen to publish me, but like any publisher, they need to sell books to stay afloat, and they need me to help make that happen. These days when the market is being flooded with books written by AI, (People are buying them!) it’s tough to be an Indy Publisher. So I’m sucking it up and getting vulnerable. I’m asking.
So that’s it for today.
Over and out.
Remember: Live the Love! It’s what we’ve got.
